The Academy, which will be held in Costa Rica from 29 August – 3 September, 2010, is organized by oikos Foundation in cooperation with the Growing Inclusive Markets Initiative and hosted by CATIE and INCAE Business School in Turrialba and Alajuela, Costa Rica.

The 2010 academy focus, “Inclusive Partnerships for Sustainable Market Innovations”, aims to attract papers fostering new ideas and solutions on how businesses, governments and other stakeholders can actively account for environmental and social resources and limits when building markets that include the poor and create opportunities for human development. The event aims to advance academic research on the Base of the Pyramid, development and governance issues, build networks across disciplinary boundaries and to prepare the ground for research that is relevant for both academic and business audiences.

The programme will encompass graduate student presentations, guest lectures, professional development roundtables and social events. To allow in-depth discussions the Academy is limited to 15 PhD students and young scholars working on poverty and development from a management or economics perspective. Deadline for submitting applications is May 15, 2010. The GIM Initiative will be providing three grants for outstanding young scholars coming from developing countries.
