On December 2, 2010, UNDP, in association with the Turkish Development Cooperation (TIKA), launched the regional Growing Inclusive Markets project in Kosovo, as well as shared the findings of the forthcoming report “Business Solutions to Poverty – How inclusive business models create opportunities for all in Emerging Europe and Central Asia”. This report is the first to apply the concept of inclusive business models to the ECA region, showcasing 19 businesses from the region that have successfully implemented inclusive business models, in an effort to inspire other companies to actively contribute to the growth and development of their community by engaging the poor in their business models.

The launch discussed the growing possibility for implementing inclusive business models in Kosovo, and fostered dialogue between policy makers, businesses and other development actors regarding investment opportunities that could benefit both businesses and the poor. The launch was attended by senior government officials, private businesses, trade unions, chambers of commerce, and experts from UNDP Kosovo and the Bratislava Regional Center.

“In essence, in this project we will offer a brokerage service to the private sector by helping SMEs identify viable business opportunities that lead to employment generation and enhanced access to essential goods by poor people,” said UNDP Kosovo Director Mr. Parviz Fartash in his welcome address.
