The UN Global Compact was officially launched by the Montenegrin Employers Federation and UNDP Montenegro, in cooperation with the Directorate for Small and Medium Enterprises and the Center for Development of NGOs (CRNVO), in Becici, Montenegro on December 9, 2010. While, the aim was to present the Global Compact and its principles, and to inform the public on its importance for Montenegro, the event also served as an opportunity to present the Growing Inclusive Markets regional report, “Business Solutions to Poverty – How inclusive business models create opportunity for all in Emerging Europe and Central Asia“. ┬áThis report is the first to apply the concept of inclusive business models to the ECA region, showcasing 19 businesses from the region that have successfully implemented inclusive business models, in an effort to inspire other companies to actively contribute to the growth and development of their community by engaging the poor in their business models.

As Mr Alexander Avanessov, UNDP Resident Representative, said, “Today, there is a critical mass of resources and enthusiasm among the private sector in Montenegro to streamline public interest in its business model and through concrete initiative contribute to the sustainable and equitable development in Montenegro.” The event was attended by more than 80 participants, while the Global Compact Charter was signed by 18 companies/institutions so far.
