This case study spotlights the inspiring story of a female entrepreneur who overcame logistical and cultural obstacles to establish an innovative value chain that provides livelihoods for 1,000 herders and their families.

From micro-enterprise to multinational corporations, the private sector has a critical role to play in conflict prevention, conflict resolution and especially in post-conflict recovery. A healthy and productive local private sector is one way for post-conflict countries to transition from recovery to stability.
In collaboration with the Business Alliance Against Chronic Hunger (BAACH), the GIM Initiative organized a workshop in Kenya in December 2009 on “Private-Public Partnership: Sharing and applying best practices for roll out of successful irrigation solutions for sustainable food security, economic empowerment and growth”.
The GIM Initiative has developed 6 case studies of inclusive business models in China across sectors, from agriculture to eco-tourism, handicrafts, bio- and hydro-energy, and ICT. The Growing Inclusive Markets Initiative and the Business Call to Action were jointly launched at the China-Africa Business Council in September 2009.
In Brazil, GIM partner Fundação Dom Cabral (FDC) is working to set up a national center of excellence on inclusive markets. FDC has already authored 3 GIM case studies on Natura, Sadia and Votorantim Celulose e Papel, as well as organized the launch and Portuguese translation of the “Creating Value for All” Report.
