Policymakers
Policymakers will find a particular interest in the Growing Inclusive Markets Initiative as a means to get a better understanding of the role of the private sector in addressing development challenges and the importance for public and private actors to collaborate in order to achieve their respective goals more efficiently for the ultimate benefits of the poor.
- The Heat Maps will inform policymakers on the extent to which the poor in urban and rural areas have access to specific goods and services, highlighting the gaps that need to be filled out. The break-down of data by provider is particularly relevant to understand the role of the different actors, including informal ones, active in the provision of such goods and services.
- The Case Studies will provide inspiring examples of inclusive business models, including cases where the public sector has played an important role, by either collaborating with private actors or by adapting policies. The following cases are particularly relevant for policymakers:
- Mali > Rural Electrification
- Philippines > CocoTech
- Philippines > RiteMed
- Tanzania > A to Z Textile Mills
- Uganda > APWO
- The Innovations Bank — especially the "collaborate" and "changing policy" solution approaches — will showcase the kind of public interventions that have proven necessary to enable the development of inclusive business models and address specific challenges, such as providing public goods or basic services to the poorest.
- The Country Initiatives will provide valuable information on related activities taking place at the national level.
